Dr Josep Brugada Terradellas is an internationally renowned cardiologist. Specialising in arrhythmias and electrophysiology, he is, along with his brothers Pedro and Ramon, the co-discoverer of Brugada Syndrome (1992), a genetic disorder that can cause sudden cardiac death.

Graduate in Medicine and Surgery at Univesitat de Barcelona (1981), he obtained his doctorate with Cum Laude distinction (1987) and trained in Cardiology at the University of Montpellier, France, and the University of Limburg, Maastricht, Netherlands.
He is currently head of the Arrhythmia Section at Barnaclínic+ and the Paediatric Arrhythmia Unit at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, a senior consultant in Cardiology, Arrhythmias and Sudden Death at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, and a professor of Medicine at Universitat de Barcelona. He also practises at Centre Mèdic Tecnon and Clínica Rotger Quirónsalud in Mallorca.
He has participated in over 350 conferences as a speaker and has led more than 20 competitive research projects.
He presided over the European Heart Rhythm Association (2006-2008) and has received numerous awards, including the King Jaime I Award for Clinical Medicine, the Fritz Acker Award from the German Cardiac Society, and the American College of Cardiology Award.
