The Hospital Pharmacy Service at Clínica Girona is participating in the 65th SEFH Congress (virtual).

Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the conference that was due to be held in person in Barcelona has changed its format and become a virtual conference.

At the inaugural session of #SEFH2020, held at midday on Tuesday 20 October, the pharmacist at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, Edurne Fernández de Gamarra, current president of the SEFH Congress committee, stated: “It has been a learning experience organising #SEFH2020, and having to change the format halfway through has been even more so, but we were convinced that it was worth it.“.

1,800 participants

The 65th Congress of the Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy (SEFH) is breaking participation records, bringing together over 1,800 delegates, surpassing previous editions after a race against time since the online format was decided upon in May.

According to the opinion of Dr. Edurne Fernández de Gamarra, chairwoman of the Congress Committee, “We are very satisfied with the work we have carried out thanks to the great team we have formed, honouring the Congress's motto. In May, we made a risky decision that has been a learning experience for all of us. We have managed to retain most of the initial scientific content, changing the format of some sessions and adapting the timetable to make it more accessible. We have succeeded in creating an attractive, mobile programme with a record historical participation with which we have been rewarded. Now we are excited to be able to share the fruits of this work and, alongside all the participants, continue to grow, share knowledge and learn.“.

For her part, Dr. Olga Delgado, president of the SEFH, has underlined that the development of this Congress, “has tested the resilience of a profession in facing the extraordinary circumstances we are experiencing and, just like with care work during the pandemic, it has managed to adapt and give its best. We are enormously grateful to the organising committee who, rather than hesitating about holding a non-face-to-face congress, rose to the occasion with commitment and generosity, to make these days a unique opportunity for us all to come together on the project and give it even more value than it already had.“.

Online sessions and 3D exhibition

The scientific programme, which attendees can view live or on-demand, has been divided into two time slots (morning from 08:15-10:15 / afternoon from 15:00 to 19:30) and can be followed from any computer or mobile device. This timetable format has been designed to make it easier for attendees to balance attending the Congress with their work.
