In the run-up to the International Day for the Fight Against Breast Cancer, Clínica Girona organised yesterday the first educational day to address various aspects concerning the evolution of breast cancer treatments, the most common tumour in women worldwide, and the importance of early breast cancer diagnosis in winning the fight against this disease.

The programme, organised by Ressonància Girona, addressed the current vision of breast cancer by specialist doctors in radiology, pathological anatomy, surgery, oncology, and psychology, as well as a perspective from the associative viewpoint, with the participation of the Fundació Oncolliga Girona. The clinical director of Clínica Girona, Dr Eva Palau, opened the event, and following the specialists' presentations, a short music therapy session was offered.
The topics covered were: technological advancements in breast cancer imaging, the role of the pathologist in the disease, the evolution of breast cancer surgery, the role of the oncologist in treatment, psychological aspects and support services of the Oncolliga Girona Foundation.
Main events of the International Day for the Fight against Breast Cancer
Precisely, the Oncolliga Foundation is organising a commemorative event today at 12 noon in Plaça Miquel Santaló, Girona. A manifesto will be read by the writer Maria Mercè Roca, and a giant pink ribbon will be created using balloons, with the participation of the attendees.
On the other hand, throughout this week the Association Against Cancer in Girona is once again highlighting the importance that «pink is more than a colour» with the aim of restoring the mobilising identity of this colour. To promote the pink movement means to promote research and improve the quality of life for patients. For this reason, the association has launched a series of solidarity products, through its online shop and its local branches, the entire proceeds of which will be used to fund research projects and to offer psycho-oncological, social and healthcare assistance at all stages of the illness. At the same time, this week the organisation has organised various free workshops and activities to highlight the importance of taking care of one's own health and self-care. The aim is to offer a formative and solidarity-based initiative, in favour of comprehensive healthcare and, more specifically, for people suffering from cancer.
To conclude, today at 8 PM there's a charity fashion show at the Auditorium of the Cultural Centre la Mercè with people who have suffered or are suffering from breast cancer.

The Daily
Wednesday 18 October 2023, on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Fight against Breast Cancer (19O), Ressonància Girona organised an Educational Conference open to the public, at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium of Clínica Girona, in order to address various aspects of the evolution in breast cancer treatments, the most frequent tumour in women worldwide, and the importance of early breast cancer diagnosis in winning the fight against this disease.
Early detection allows for the detection of breast cancer at a very early stage, when it does not yet cause discomfort and the possibility of a cure is higher. For this reason, the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the SISCAT hospitals, in accordance with the recommendations of various international bodies, invite women between 50 and 69 years of age to have a mammogram every two years.
The programme, organised by Ressonància Girona, aimed to offer the current view on breast cancer from specialist doctors in radiology, pathological anatomy, surgery, oncology, and psychology, as well as a perspective from an associative viewpoint, with the participation of the Fundació Oncolliga Girona. The clinical director of Clínica Girona, Dr. Eva Palau, opened the event with a welcome speech, and after the specialists’ presentations, a short music therapy session and refreshments were offered to conclude the event.
