AECC-Catalunya contra el Càncer will collaborate with Clínica Girona to offer various support services to people diagnosed with cancer and their families.

This collaboration will be possible thanks to the agreement signed by the two organisations, which was signed by the manager of Clínica Girona, Carles Espígol, and the president of AECC Girona, Isabel Alejandro.

Thanks to this agreement, oncology patients at Clínica Girona will be able to benefit from the programme First Impact of the’AECC at the time of diagnosis and within the same centre. This programme aims to immediately provide the necessary information on existing resources for psychological, social, and specific punctual information care for people diagnosed with cancer and their families. To achieve this, the Association will make psycho-oncology professionals available to the clinic, who will intervene in cases of psychological disorders presented by the patient and/or their families, provide guidance, offer advice, and supply therapeutic tools aimed at facilitating the adaptation of those affected to the illness process and its treatment. Care will be provided in both regular consultations and the Palliative Care Unit.

Carles Espígol, manager of Clínica Girona, has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement reached: “Clínica Girona has been collaborating with the AECC for many years, supporting them in the organisation of various activities. We now wanted to go further and sign this collaboration agreement to bring all the specialised help from the AECC more directly and effectively to cancer patients who are diagnosed or treated at the Clinic. This is about joining forces in this fight that brings us all together.”.

For her part, Isabel Alejandro, president of the Girona Provincial Office of the AECC, has expressed great satisfaction with this agreement “which will allow us to collaborate with Clínica Girona, one of the leading clinics in Catalonia. Collaborative and interdisciplinary teamwork is of vital importance in the fight against cancer. This formula will allow us to support and accompany both the patient and their families with the aim of improving their lives.”.

The agreement signed also includes the collaboration of a team of AECC volunteers in accompanying cancer patients and their families, providing respite for the primary caregiver, offering emotional support, assisting healthcare staff with complementary tasks, and referring to specialised personnel if situations or needs are detected that require their intervention.
