The book, published by McGraw Hill, is the result of his two passions: medicine and the sea.

Dr. Santiago Aparicio, an allergist at Clínica Girona, has written a book on “Medicine Applied to Navigation”, which has been published by the North American educational publisher McGraw Hill.“As a doctor and sailor“states Dr Santiago Aparicio, a keen yachtsman, boat skipper and first-class sports diver, “fIt was during this time that I considered the necessity of a medical reference book that would support sailors in general, and specifically sporting sailors too, in emergency situations and also with common medical issues aboard a ship.“.

According to Dr. Aparicio: “Unfortunately, at sea we are faced with situations that on land have a very different approach, and it is difficult to know what to do when an accident occurs suddenly and action is required.”.

The book “Medicine Applied to Navigation”, very intuitive, is organised by chapters according to the type of navigation and the people on board. In the different sections, Dr. Aparicio includes recommended medication for each illness and accident, based on the medicines in the different first-aid kits, and also provides a list of recommended medications in addition to those already included in the usual first-aid kits. The final appendix contains a complete guide to the dosage of these recommended medications for both adults and children.

“It's a book for reading, but above all for reference,” concludes Dr. Aparicio, and I hope it becomes a useful support tool for nautical medical emergencies.”.
