The building is finished and now all the facility tests are being carried out

On Monday 18th April 2022, Nova Girona will be operational.

On 18th April 2022, the new Clínica Girona, located at the southern entrance to the city, at 204-206 Carrer Barcelona, will be fully operational. The move to the new premises is scheduled for the Easter weekend, taking advantage of lower patient activity, and on the morning of the 18th, patients admitted to the hospital centre will be transferred.

According to Carles Espígol, manager of Clínica Girona: “We didn't want to rush. We wanted to ensure the completion of the works and have enough time to test all the equipment. The Clinic's staff have already been going to the new facility since the beginning of March, to prepare everything for the move which, now, will be at Easter. And we can assure this because we are now self-sufficient, once the works are completely finished.”.

Manager Carles Espígol stated, “with these new facilities, the citizens of the Girona region gain a major healthcare centre, a modern, absolutely accessible, comfortable, and efficient hospital, with the same staff and the most human treatment that characterises us, and which furthermore boasts the most innovative technology to bring the medicine of the future to Girona.”.

The manager also highlights that this major infrastructure has dignified the southern entrance to the city. “All the neighbours we've spoken to are very satisfied and very happy to have the new Clínica Girona in their vicinity, both for itself and because they've seen how the surrounding area is being transformed with the opening of new commercial premises that are bringing new vitality to the area.”.

In the end, there will only have been a four-month delay, compared to the initial opening forecast, announced for the Immaculate Conception bridge in 2021. For Carles Espígol, this delay “has been the minimum possible and is quite reasonable for such a large project, given the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting global supply shortages.”.

The new Girona Clinic is an architectural project by PMMT architects and the construction work have been carried out by the UTE led by Construccions Rubau, along with Alfred. The direction of the works, quality control, and health and safety has been carried out by the technical architecture company. AT2.

The new Girona Clinic, located at Ctra. de Barcelona 204-206, triples its current surface area (increasing from 13,000 M² to 41,000 M²). The project, built to maximum sustainability criteria, has a budget of approximately 65 million euros.
