29 May 2024, at 7 p.m. Public event in the Assembly Hall of Clínica Girona:
The auditorium at Clínica Girona was almost full on 29 May, with the public attending a talk on the pelvic floor given by the gynaecologist Dr Joan Meléndez, from the medical report of Clínica Girona, and of the Mrs Eva Gallardo, physiotherapist at the Fisiomèdic team, both specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions.
Dr Eva Palau, Medical Director of Clínica Girona, welcomed the assembled audience and highlighted the role of these talks and events held at Clínica Girona as added value “which aims to move towards a healthier population and citizenry, promoting healthy habits”.
During the talk, the symptoms, diagnostic tests and treatment options for these dysfunctions were presented. At the end of the session, physiotherapist Alba Guillen also joined to answer the audience's questions and demonstrate some simple exercises for pelvic floor activation.

Pelvic floor dysfunction in women encompasses a wide range of problems, including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, sexual dysfunction, and other disorders such as chronic pelvic pain. These conditions, which significantly affect quality of life, can be caused by various factors, including childbirth, hormonal changes, genetics, menopause, obesity, smoking, or damage to pelvic support tissues during surgical procedures.
When faced with pelvic floor dysfunction, it is considered a priority to conduct a thorough assessment and diagnosis in order to personalise treatment. The treatment of these dysfunctions varies according to the cause and severity of the problem.
Therapeutic options, depending on the symptoms and their severity, include physiotherapy and rehabilitation, oral or vaginal medical treatments, non-invasive therapies such as radiofrequency or vaginal laser, or reconstructive surgery.
